Steven Sinofsky’s article “Systems Ideas that Sound Good But Almost Never Work” calls out some of those ideas that seem like a good idea at the time but have unexpected outcomes, and the value or risk of following that “non-standard” or sometimes even “standard” idea.
I like this article as it’s a bit of a cautionary tale - an example / demonstration of how well-intentioned decisions can have unintended outcomes, without having to learn things the hard way. So next time someone says “Can we just…”, you’re forewarned.
